Those great laptop computers have never been priced better. Not only are laptop computers affordable, but they give the user terrific flexibility and have the ability to accomplish everything a PC can do. Walk in any electronic store showroom and those magical, portable gems are staring back at you, just waiting to get to work or play. But, take your time, get your bearings and set your sights on the purchasing the best laptop computer for your use.

Here are five tips to think about while you pursue your new laptop computer in Miami.

1. Set your goals - Laptops have different capabilities and designs. Before you begin the search for the best laptop, define your goals and match those goals. If your use calls for games that are filled with graphics, the best laptop for you will include a dedicated graphics card.

If you lean toward word processing or general web viewing, you should purchase a laptop with an integrated card. That is your first decision.

2. Go Long On Memory - The best laptop will have no less than 4 GB of RAM. Any less may present a problem. Remember that Windows Vista requires a good amount of memory.

Combine that memory with a fast processor. A laptop with a slow processor defeats the purpose. If you expect casual usage, a shelf laptop might suffice, but if you are serious and need speed, go for extra power. Unfortunately, the more powerful the processor, the more the laptop computer will cost.

3. See to Believe - The best laptop experiences are ones you can see. Screens under 15.4 inches are hard to read. Go a little bigger if you want, but not any smaller.

4. Take Resolution Personally - The best laptop for you will have the screen resolution that is most comfortable for you. Test the resolution on the laptop for brightness and clarity. Remember, this laptop computer is going to be by your side for a long time to come.

5. Accessorize Yourself - Today, there are lots of options for accessories. You may want to consider a laptop equipped with Bluetooth so that you can take advantage of things like a wireless printer and other options.

There are many quality laptop computers on the market and on the Internet. However, the safest way to make a smart laptop buy is to visit a dealer and ask all the questions and sample the goods. A consumer’s goal is to purchase the best laptop computer for their needs and to use it for years to come. Good luck!

Aardman Animations (Makers of Wallace and Gromit) and the Intellectual Property Office of UK recently promoted a YouGov poll to find out the best-loved modern invention.

The survey constituted opinions of almost 2000 adults who took part in the poll, with 37% saying that the internet was the best of all modern inventions, choosing it over inventions like the mobile phone and the mp3 player.

The poll was originally setup by the two entities to commemorate the opening of a new Wallace and Gromit exhibition at the Science Museum in London, titled ‘Cracking Ideas’. The Intellectual Property Office collaborated with Aardman Animations to survey the UK population to find out which modern day invention they consider the most important.

Trevor Baylis, the inventor of the windup radio, reacting to the results of the poll, said that broadband has an important role to play in shaping of the popular opinion in favour of the internet. The availability of fast connections and the huge popularity of social networking sites are according to him the factors that have made the internet a necessity in people’s lives.

He also said that the protection and development of all inventions, now and in the future, is vital for the UK economy. The future generations should be inspired by the inventors of the past and encouraged to become inventors of the future.

The Koreans have yet again achieved a milestone in the advancement of broadband services. While residents of Bournemouth struggle to get their hands on the 100 Mb fibre optic trial and Virgin Media makes loud noises about its 50 Mb fixed line broadband launch, Korea has announced that it would start work on a 1 Gb broadband service.

The super fast service would be launched in 2012 and will lead to creation of 120,000 jobs. The service is likely to have a major impact on the Korean IT infrastructure and would get a huge welcome from its gaming community. The cost is projected to be $24.6 billion, but in this recessionary period, it would also act as a much-needed stimulus for the economy. To add to this, the Korean wireless network is also set for a big boost. The service would be improved to make sure it can handle speeds up to 10 Mb.

Korea is one of the few countries, which have always been at the leading edge of broadband development. Among the developed nations, you do not have to go far from home to figure out who is lagging behind. Try out your own connection and see how slow it is in comparison with the 100 Mb speeds that Korea currently enjoys. Clearly, UK needs more ambitious planning and execution if it has to stay in touch with the broadband big boys.

It seems that nothing can stop the ongoing development of VoIP. Driven by increasingly widely available low cost broadband Internet telephony has become one of the fastest-growing applications on the World Wide Web. But apart from cheap calls, there are other factors which have contributed to this hugely popular way of making calls. There is clearly a trend toward more innovative and more mobile services and this looks likely to ensure that demand for VoIP continues to develop. It is estimated that there are already around four million VoIP users in the UK, excluding business subscriptions.
Key figures in the industry point to the proliferation of ADSL broadband connections that do not require line rental for a standard phone line (naked ADSL), and number portability between conventional and IP phone services as the two key factors that will bring raise the profile of VoIP to new levels.

In fact such has been the impact of VoIP that some have suggested that it may not be long before users can dispose of their traditional landline telephones completely in favour of a broadband phone.

Taking a more practical view, there are issues that will need to be addressed before that can happen. In the United Kingdom Internet telephony providers like Vonage or VoIPTalk will have to look closely at both security and ease of use, as well as continue to deliver a convenient and financially viable service. They certainly offer cheap calls already but, what else do they need to do to ensure a prosperous future for VoIP?
As the Internet is a vast public network the VoIP traffic is no more immune from attack than any other data. Security is a concern for many users, particularly in the business community and the means to increase protection for users would be a welcome step in securing the long-term future of VoIP.

The ease of use issue may not remain a hindrance to development now that handsets that work on mobile networks and, via WiFi or Bluetooth links, over VoIP are now taking their place in the shops. This raises the prospect of using low-cost VoIP services at home, in the office or at a WiFi hotspot, but still retaining the flexibility of mobile coverage when out and about.

Some VoIP providers are now selling these handsets, and have set up joint arrangements with wireless hotspots so that their customers can make and receive calls in public places without the need for a PC.

It’s likely that some of the restrictions of such handsets i.e. difficulties in hotspots that use web pages for authentication to be addressed imminently.

The advance of newer networking technologies will further minimise the gap between fixed, mobile and VoIP services. Wireless broadband services, in particular WiMax, could create city-wide wireless hotspots, making it possible to make mobile VoIP calls in much wider areas.

Just a time ago it looked like fast laptops were only being built by a couple of certain brands and were built to spec, not mass produced. Basically as I remember they were not actually the best selling notebooks but being more significantly costly they were the greatest profit producing systems. Regardless of that everyone probably wanted one. I bet you would say they were the best laptop computers about, at least speed wise. Laptops for gaming would get everyone excited in regard to what’s to released in a couple of years but I don’t think they would buy laptop computers like this whilst be wary that the price is going to go down quickly. The chief companies have lately begun taking advantage of large opportunities in gaming laptops, so that is all transforming.

Laptops for gaming are traditionally not affordable by everyone and global brands know they can exploit the high markup even more with their low fixed costs. With computers being classed like other household electronics this is an excellent profit center for them. I am quite certain that people would buy laptop computers if mass marketed by these global companies. I wonder whether this would be the demise of smaller resellers? Clearly what I see happening here is that the larger companies cutting prices initially to get rid of the competition from smaller companies. In addition people just seem to trust bigger companies greater.

Astonishingly, the notebook computers they are manufacturing are a couple of the best laptop computers to present. This is surely the only advantage that littler competitors can offer that the established companies cannot. On occasions the smaller retailers could supply the newest parts quicker and hence give higher configurations too. These buyers have the technical knowledge and would conclude which laptops are best. For consumers of this type, the performance usually is more important than what it looks like.

All purchasers agree that it is a positive development. A tactic that the littler companies may apply is to trim margins in to shift more units. Things alter so quick in this industry that I cannot specifically make any confident predications. New laptops are always being introduced and these latest systems normally go for premium prices. As the gaming notebook sector gets over crowded with multinational brands, most will apply a wait and see tactic.

Introducing the mini iPod Mini: the iPod Shuffle

The iPod shuffle is basically a smaller version of Apple’s extremely popular iPod and iPod Mini. The shuffle is much smaller than the iPod (about the same size and weight as a pack of gum), but holds fewer songs as a result. You can now purchase either a 512MB iPod shuffle, or one with a full 1GB. Keep in mind that the regular iPod can now hold up to 40GB, so it has quite a bit more storage. The shuffle though is designed to be a super-mobile, light-weight device that you can wear around your neck and take just about anywhere. You are limited to about 10 CDs worth of songs that play in a random order on default. Below you will find some more information about the device, including a manufacturers description and review.

Information Direct From Apple

Time to mix things up. Meet iPod shuffle, the unpredictable new iPod. What will it play next? Can it read your mind? Can it read your moods? Load it up. Put it on. See where it takes you.

Random is the New Order
Welcome to a life less orderly. As official soundtrack to the random revolution, the iPod Shuffle Songs setting takes you on a unique journey through your music collection — you never know what’s around the next tune. Meet your new ride. More roadster than Rolls, iPod shuffle rejects routine by serving up your favorite songs in a different order every time. Just plug iPod shuffle into your computer’s USB port, let iTunes Autofill it with up to 120 songs and get a new experience with every connection. The trail you run every day looks different with an iPod shuffle. Daily gridlock feels less mundane when you don’t know what song will play next. iPod shuffle adds musical spontaneity to your life. Lose control. Love it.

DJ Your Day
If you favor cycling to a hip-hop soundtrack and snowboarding to a little electronica, Autofill iPod shuffle from a specific iTunes Playlist and roll. Download an album from the iTunes Music Store and listen to it in order before you Shuffle it into your collection. Or just drag and drop individual songs from iTunes onto iPod shuffle. With Play in Order mode, you manage the music. If things take a turn for the predictable, never fear. Turn iPod shuffle over, flip the slider to Shuffle and mix on the go.

Goes with Everything
iPod shuffle weighs as little as a car key and makes a tuneful fashion statement. Just throw the included lanyard around your neck and take a walk. Or run. Or ride. There’s nowhere your skip-free iPod shuffle can’t go, and with up to 12 hours of continuous playback time, it keeps going as long as you do. A neat little cap protects the USB connector, and those signature white earbud headphones tell the world you love to listen in style. You can even make your iPod shuffle splash-proof, arm-hugging, and longer-running with optional accessories. Ready for anything from a Transatlantic flight to a weekend at the beach, the iPod shuffle makes the perfect, low-maintenance pal.

Touch of Genius
Good things really do come in small packages. The controls on the iPod shuffle feel as intuitive and easy to use as those on every iPod model. Play, pause, skip, repeat, shuffle and hold at the touch of a thumb: The circular, ergonomic controls and one-click slider make it simple to listen without looking.

The Music Store in Your House
Add to the iPod shuffle mix with songs downloaded from the iTunes Music Store. Browse and preview more than one million songs, then buy what you want, 24-7, from the comfort of your Mac or PC. With the iTunes Music Store and iPod shuffle, you’ll always have music at hand…literally. The smallest iPod yet, iPod shuffle fits neatly in the palm of your hand and looks just plain neat around your neck. Prepare to make friends and influence people when you wear it biking, hiking, snowboarding, dog-walking and anywhere else that could use a great soundtrack.

That includes off-the-beaten-path spots where you may need to play, pause, move back, skip forward, shuffle and turn up the volume without looking. Luckily, iPod shuffle pays due respect to its elders with a thumb-friendly, circular control pad that puts the ‘go’ in ergonomic.

Plug-and-Playlists
iPod shuffle makes syncing a piece of cake. Cupcake, even. Use the optional Dock to connect to your computer or just plug iPod shuffle directly into a USB port on any computer. Then drag and drop individual songs, Autofill your favorite playlists or Autofill your iPod shuffle with a random sampling from your music library. Since iPod shuffle automatically charges while syncing, it stays ready for your next adventure.

Our First Look at the Shuffle

First of all, the iPod shuffle is a very simple looking device that follows the same style as the famed iPod. It really is the size of a decent pack of gum, easily worn around the neck as Apple proposes, or in your pocket. The connection to your computer could not be easier; all you have to do is hook it into your usb port like you would a regular usb memory stick. You can then copy onto the shuffle any songs or groups of songs you would like. For those of you who already own and iPod, you will be happy that the device takes AAC files, as well as MP3. Once on the shuffle, the songs begin to play out in random order. If you want to hear a particular song, you have to keep hitting forward until you reach it - there is no display on the device to show you what songs are coming up. This is one of the very few downsides to the music player.

The music sounds really good, even with the headphones it comes with. The music did not skip once, substantiating Apple’s anti-skip claim. It would have been nice to see an FM tuner feature, but then again, it was designed to be a simply device without the bells and whistles that make other similar players $100 more expensive. Also, the battery life is just about 12 hours, which is about 5 hours less than the industry average. Most of the time this is not a problem, however, since it is so easy to recharge (it even recharges while you are loading songs onto it).

The fact that the songs play randomly on the device is going to be seen differently by different people. It can be somewhat liberating not to have to worry about which song you will hear next, or in what order you will hear a group of songs. In fact, it’s just like mindlessly listening to the radio, except that you only hear songs you like, and there are no commercials - two really good things! If you want more control over your songs, or you really need to see where you are in your play list, then a regular iPod may be the better choice. But for those who want a simple, light-weight, spontaneous alternative to the iPod, the shuffle is just about the best choice.

Everybody requires laptop computers it seems. How did we exist without them? In fact demand is so enormous that taiwanese manufactures are betting on component shortages proacitively. Laptop Computers have been a thriving business year on year for a number of years now and it looks like that will continue. New devices are popping up all the time that litterally create new niches in the laptop computer business.

The majority of companies have been coming out with gaming notebooks as of late. Adequate gaming notebooks can be brought relatively cheap for average gaming requirements. I feel notebooks are a sound alternative for playing games. Maybe not exactly for the hardcore but they’re super for the rest of us. Past obstactles with giant, hot notebooks for gaming are vanishing and new thinner, attractive products are being launched. Extreme game players will always prefer their desktop gaming machines for power and rightly so but it’s the functionality notebooks provide that makes people settle on frame rates. The advancement of gaming notebooks signifies that they will get thinner and lighter in the years to come.

Even though the market share is governed by manufacturers marketing via retail channels I feel the direct model and custom built notebooks will always be around. Ram and hard disks are commonly high performance engineered parts in custom notebooks which power users like. By being able to take away some add on’s from the spec you can really save cash on components you will not use. Prebuilt notebook computers are targeted at consumers who have common needs and that is probably not you right? You get around this by purchasing a laptop built to . There are tons of small system builders around that provide great service. Big companies are surprisingly being overlooked because of this.

We are seeing some pretty awesome stuff at the minute and I wonder what will be released next. The latest trend along with those spoken of looks to be cheap umpc’s. I was never expecting vast amounts of consumers to like the technology. People need sleek, super light notebooks yet they also want them to have massive screens. I firgure forming an appealing price point is a main barrier in all this. For sure the technology is present. Laptops for playing games on will get littler, that’s for sure. Regardless of the fact that laptop technology follows plans there is always going to be a gadget that transforms all that.

Check out a few gaming laptops from rizeon.

The dawn of the DNA test

Back in the 1700s, the best way to determine paternity was by a good hard look and the child, followed by a good hard look at the father. Enough coincidences and maybe a relationship could be proposed. A hundred years later, eye color was discovered to be a paternity identifier. This theory has had its flaws exposed because of recent DNA advances. We now know that eye color is determined by at least six alleles, or genetic markers. Paternity testing has become a lot easier and affordable over the past few years due to advances in DNA science. Although an estimated 200,000 DNA tests are conducted each year by states needing to sort child-support and welfare issues, few people are willing to conduct their own at-home paternity test. They don’t realize the simplicity and convenience of an at-home paternity test.

How does a home DNA test work?

Paternity testing requires a painless sample from both the child and possible father. Even without a sample from the mother, DNA paternity test results are up to 99.9999% accurate-that’s one-in-a-million odds your results are incorrect. Most companies provide a free home kit for you to provide the samples and require you to send the kit back to the laboratory with the accompanying fee.

Because many companies are aware of the discomfort of drawing blood from a child in order to get a sample, buccal (mouth) swabs are being accepted as an alternative. By gently massaging the inside of the child’s mouth, cheek cells are collected. These cells are then sent to the lab for testing. Labs analyze up to sixteen genetic markers of the child and match them against the markers of the alleged father. Because each of us receives half our genetic markers from each parent, the results of DNA paternity testing are still accurate without the DNA information of the mother. Most labs will have results in 10 days and charge about $290 for a basic paternity verification test.

What else can a DNA test do?

DNA kits can also be used to analyze siblingship, establish cousin or grandparent relationships, determine twin zygosity (i.e. whether twins are fraternal or identical), identify ancestral origin, verify Native American decent, assure parents they left the hospital with the right baby, and most important, provide legal evidence-be prepared to pay a bit more for legal tests. Legal tests can be used to settle adoption issues, settle child-support disputes, and provide information for immigration files.

How to choose a DNA laboratory

  • Accreditation is a vital part of choosing a laboratory. Accredited labs have an annual audit and inspection, undergo internal and external reviews, and have their equipment calibrated for accuracy. Look for an ISO and/or AABB certification. Accredited labs will have a good reputation and near 100% track record for court cases.
  • Look for hidden fees. Some companies will charge you for the kit and then charge you again for the results. Also, double check when you order your kit that you’re only buying the results you need.
  • Ask about privacy. Make sure that your identity and intentions are kept secure.
  • Enjoy piece of mind

Be confident that the questions you have can be answered. DNA testing is safe and stress-free. Find a free kit and an information packet and you’re on your way to getting the piece of mind that you deserve.
