Just a time ago it looked like fast laptops were only being built by a couple of certain brands and were built to spec, not mass produced. Basically as I remember they were not actually the best selling notebooks but being more significantly costly they were the greatest profit producing systems. Regardless of that everyone probably wanted one. I bet you would say they were the best laptop computers about, at least speed wise. Laptops for gaming would get everyone excited in regard to what’s to released in a couple of years but I don’t think they would buy laptop computers like this whilst be wary that the price is going to go down quickly. The chief companies have lately begun taking advantage of large opportunities in gaming laptops, so that is all transforming.

Laptops for gaming are traditionally not affordable by everyone and global brands know they can exploit the high markup even more with their low fixed costs. With computers being classed like other household electronics this is an excellent profit center for them. I am quite certain that people would buy laptop computers if mass marketed by these global companies. I wonder whether this would be the demise of smaller resellers? Clearly what I see happening here is that the larger companies cutting prices initially to get rid of the competition from smaller companies. In addition people just seem to trust bigger companies greater.

Astonishingly, the notebook computers they are manufacturing are a couple of the best laptop computers to present. This is surely the only advantage that littler competitors can offer that the established companies cannot. On occasions the smaller retailers could supply the newest parts quicker and hence give higher configurations too. These buyers have the technical knowledge and would conclude which laptops are best. For consumers of this type, the performance usually is more important than what it looks like.

All purchasers agree that it is a positive development. A tactic that the littler companies may apply is to trim margins in to shift more units. Things alter so quick in this industry that I cannot specifically make any confident predications. New laptops are always being introduced and these latest systems normally go for premium prices. As the gaming notebook sector gets over crowded with multinational brands, most will apply a wait and see tactic.

Our First Look at the Shuffle

First of all, the iPod shuffle is a very simple looking device that follows the same style as the famed iPod. It really is the size of a decent pack of gum, easily worn around the neck as Apple proposes, or in your pocket. The connection to your computer could not be easier; all you have to do is hook it into your usb port like you would a regular usb memory stick. Also, the battery life is just about 12 hours, which is about 5 hours less than the industry average. Most of the time this is not a problem, however, since it is so easy to recharge (it even recharges while you are loading songs onto it).

The fact that the songs play randomly on the device is going to be seen differently by different people. It can be somewhat liberating not to have to worry about which song you will hear next, or in what order you will hear a group of songs. In fact, it’s just like mindlessly listening to the radio, except that you only hear songs you like, and there are no commercials - two really good things! If you want more control over your songs, or you really need to see where you are in your play list, then a regular iPod may be the better choice. But for those who want a simple, light-weight, spontaneous alternative to the iPod, the shuffle is just about the best choice.

Everybody requires laptop computers it seems. How did we exist without them? In fact demand is so enormous that taiwanese manufactures are betting on component shortages proacitively. Laptop Computers have been a thriving business year on year for a number of years now and it looks like that will continue. New devices are popping up all the time that litterally create new niches in the laptop computer business.

The majority of companies have been coming out with gaming notebooks as of late. Adequate gaming notebooks can be brought relatively cheap for average gaming requirements. I feel notebooks are a sound alternative for playing games. Maybe not exactly for the hardcore but they’re super for the rest of us. Past obstactles with giant, hot notebooks for gaming are vanishing and new thinner, attractive products are being launched. Extreme game players will always prefer their desktop gaming machines for power and rightly so but it’s the functionality notebooks provide that makes people settle on frame rates. The advancement of gaming notebooks signifies that they will get thinner and lighter in the years to come.

Even though the market share is governed by manufacturers marketing via retail channels I feel the direct model and custom built notebooks will always be around. Ram and hard disks are commonly high performance engineered parts in custom notebooks which power users like. By being able to take away some add on’s from the spec you can really save cash on components you will not use. Prebuilt notebook computers are targeted at consumers who have common needs and that is probably not you right? You get around this by purchasing a laptop built to . There are tons of small system builders around that provide great service. Big companies are surprisingly being overlooked because of this.

We are seeing some pretty awesome stuff at the minute and I wonder what will be released next. The latest trend along with those spoken of looks to be cheap umpc’s. I was never expecting vast amounts of consumers to like the technology. People need sleek, super light notebooks yet they also want them to have massive screens. I firgure forming an appealing price point is a main barrier in all this. For sure the technology is present. Laptops for playing games on will get littler, that’s for sure. Regardless of the fact that laptop technology follows plans there is always going to be a gadget that transforms all that.

The dawn of the DNA test

Back in the 1700s, the best way to determine paternity was by a good hard look and the child, followed by a good hard look at the father. Enough coincidences and maybe a relationship could be proposed. A hundred years later, eye color was discovered to be a paternity identifier. This theory has had its flaws exposed because of recent DNA advances. We now know that eye color is determined by at least six alleles, or genetic markers. Paternity testing has become a lot easier and affordable over the past few years due to advances in DNA science. Although an estimated 200,000 DNA tests are conducted each year by states needing to sort child-support and welfare issues, few people are willing to conduct their own at-home paternity test. They don’t realize the simplicity and convenience of an at-home paternity test.

How does a home DNA test work?

Paternity testing requires a painless sample from both the child and possible father. Even without a sample from the mother, DNA paternity test results are up to 99.9999% accurate-that’s one-in-a-million odds your results are incorrect. Most companies provide a free home kit for you to provide the samples and require you to send the kit back to the laboratory with the accompanying fee.

Because many companies are aware of the discomfort of drawing blood from a child in order to get a sample, buccal (mouth) swabs are being accepted as an alternative. By gently massaging the inside of the child’s mouth, cheek cells are collected. These cells are then sent to the lab for testing. Labs analyze up to sixteen genetic markers of the child and match them against the markers of the alleged father. Because each of us receives half our genetic markers from each parent, the results of DNA paternity testing are still accurate without the DNA information of the mother. Most labs will have results in 10 days and charge about $290 for a basic paternity verification test.

What else can a DNA test do?

DNA kits can also be used to analyze siblingship, establish cousin or grandparent relationships, determine twin zygosity (i.e. whether twins are fraternal or identical), identify ancestral origin, verify Native American decent, assure parents they left the hospital with the right baby, and most important, provide legal evidence-be prepared to pay a bit more for legal tests. Legal tests can be used to settle adoption issues, settle child-support disputes, and provide information for immigration files.

How to choose a DNA laboratory

  • Accreditation is a vital part of choosing a laboratory. Accredited labs have an annual audit and inspection, undergo internal and external reviews, and have their equipment calibrated for accuracy. Look for an ISO and/or AABB certification. Accredited labs will have a good reputation and near 100% track record for court cases.
  • Look for hidden fees. Some companies will charge you for the kit and then charge you again for the results. Also, double check when you order your kit that you’re only buying the results you need.
  • Ask about privacy. Make sure that your identity and intentions are kept secure.

    Introduction:
    There is a long standing dispute concerning the presence of measurable and possibly economic amounts of precious metals in certain naturally occurring brine waters. This report specifically considers the possible presence of precious metals in brine waters and other waste co-products that are generated during oil and gas production.

    The detection methods described below are easily applied, chemically straightforward, inexpensive to use, and require essentially no hazardous chemicals. It is this author’s opinion that the precious metal association as described is indicative of certain geochemical processes that are involved in the formation of oil and gas. Only a few samples from widespread locations of oil and gas production have been evaluated in this study. They all, however, have yielded qualitatively similar results suggesting the possibility of a much broader and more basic concept. The recovery procedures discussed here are currently part of a much broader Patent Pending status.

    Sample Evaluation:
    The water samples used for testing consisted of produced brine from oil and gas fields located in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and eastern China. They were taken from various stages of production, oil-water separation, and down-hole brine disposal. No attempt was made to preserve these samples other than their storage in newly purchased, clean, plastic 5-gallon water containers with lids. The bottom sediment samples evaluated in this study were exclusively from Chinese oil fields located southwest of Beijing. These samples consisted of particulates from gravity separated tank bottoms that were routinely dredged from large sludge pits, stacked in piles, and allowed to drain. Grab samples from these piles were in the order of 5 to 10 pounds and were stored in sealed plastic bags.

    Initially, aliquots of each of the brine water samples were vacuum filtered using 0.5 micron membrane papers and the filtrate was analyzed for dissolved precious element content using mainly gravimetric procedures. No precious elements were detected in any of the filtrates that were analyzed. However, when the filter residue from these samples was observed using a 45X laboratory stereoscopic microscope, variable amounts of very small (in the order of 400 to 600 mesh) particles of metallic gold and silver were identified in all of the residue samples. Many of these precious metal particles were partially to totally coated with a thin layer of an asphaltene-like substance. Subsequent fire assaying and gravimetric analysis of these residues confirmed the microscopic gold and silver identification.

    Brine Samples:
    Following is a simple procedure for the recovery and identification of suspended particulate matter contained in unfiltered oil field brine water. It should be noted that even if the brine sample appears to be clean and without any apparent suspended particulate matter, very fine-grained suspended material may be present and recoverable using this procedure.
    1. Using a clean 5-gallon container (plastic bucket) add a measured amount of the brine sample; 16 liters is suggested. If available, use a small laboratory agitator for mixing the brine water; if not stir manually.
    2. Add 3 to 5 drops of Triton X-100 (a non-toxic, nonionic surfactant manufactured by Rohm & Haas). Maintain agitation for 30 minutes.
    3. Continue agitation and add 75 grams of commercial filter-grade diatomaceous earth. Continue agitation for 30 minutes.
    4. Cease agitation and let slurry settle for approximately 1 hour. Carefully decant and discard the supernate. For a visual identification of contained gold and silver and a possible indication of the presence of platinum-group elements it is suggested that the remaining residue from the decant be washed into a shallow gold pan. This residue may then be carefully pan concentrated and observed microscopically.
    5. The residue (or pan concentrate) from the decant is placed in a beaker and while agitating the pH is lowered to approximately 4-5 with HCl. After a few minutes the pH is then raised to approximately 9 with VenMet (a reducing agent consisting of a dispersion of sodium borohydride in sodium hydroxide: use with care; manufactured by Rohm & Haas).
    6. After the VenMet reaction has ceased (approximately 15 to 30 minutes), the reduced slurry is vacuum filtered and the washed filter residue dried at approximately 300 degrees C.
    7. The dried residue may be assayed using conventional methods such as fire assay or ICP/AES.

    The metallic gold values recovered from the various oil field brines tested in this study ranged from 0.7 mg/liter to 5.5 mg/liter. The metallic silver values likewise recovered ranged from 0.2 mg/liter to 8.2 mg/liter. These gold and silver values were determined by conventional fire assay methods. It is important to note that none of these brine samples gave negative test results for gold and silver. There were no observed consistent ratios of recovered gold to silver, however, it should be noted that the subject brine samples came from all aspects of brine production and disposal. No attempt was made at determining a material balance of suspended particulate matter from any producing well or field. The values recovered are only indicative of the general order of magnitude of abundance. It is strongly suspected that platinum-group elements were also present in the residue samples derived from at least some of the tested brines.

    Bottom Sediment Samples:
    The only bottom sediment samples evaluated in this study were from a complex of oil fields located southwest of Beijing, China. These samples were randomly taken from piles of bottom sediment that were formed from the dredging of settled particulates in large oil sludge pits. These pits were being filled with tank bottoms from large oil-water gravity separation units. The samples contained approximately 90 percent medium to coarse-grained silicates that were produced from the friable oil reservoir rocks. This oversized matrix material is easily removed from the much finer-grained precious metal particles by a combination of screening and pan concentration. This procedure exposes the approximately 400 to 600 mesh metallic gold and silver; some of which has no visible coating and some of which is coated with an asphaltene-like substance. Since larger amounts of material are conveniently available from these dredged samples, as compared to that recovered from brine water residues, the presence of numerous fine-grained, black to gray, metallic spheroids and pelletal material is more readily apparent. In the author’s experience, these unique mineral forms and occurrence suggest the possible presence of platinum group metals.

    In order to obtain a more representative estimate of the quantitative abundance of precious metals in bottom sediment material it is suggested that the same procedure used to evaluate the brine samples be also used to evaluate bottom sediment samples. Among other advantages, when using this procedure much of the oily substance can be removed from the sample. Depending on the composition of the sample, additional Triton X-100 and diatomaceous earth may have to be used.

    As there was a sufficient amount of concentrate residue available from these bottom sediment samples for spectrographic determination, the panned concentrate from one of the bottom sediment samples was submitted for commercial ICP/AES analysis. The results were: Au = 0.229 Troy ounces per ton, Ag = 2.874 Troy ounces per ton, Pt = not detected, Pd = 0.024 Troy ounces per ton.

    Conclusion:
    It is the general purpose of this communication to both report the possibly ubiquitous presence of very fine-grained, metallic gold, silver, and at least some platinum-group elements, in produced oilfield waste products and to hopefully encourage others to confirm these observations. The potential theoretical and practical applications of the observations made in this study are enormous. Why hasn’t this unusual precious metal occurrence been previously described? Apparently, the answer is, “We just didn’t look!”

    When surmounting trouble rises, an optic fiber technician must
    choose the most suitable patch panel for a particular situation.
    That technician must recognize that when it comes to easy
    installation, proper termination and long term maintenance, not
    all patch panels are created equally. Optic fiber is robust and
    therefore deserves some special treatment. For example: if a
    horizontal copper cable is damaged, one user will be affected.
    If a backbone fiber goes down, it can take a lot of users down
    with it. This is why using fully enclosed connecting hardware
    for optic fiber is crucial. This is where the technician must
    choose between using wall-mounted or rack-mounted hardware. The
    optic fiber density required will most likely influence the
    technicians choice between the wall-mounted and rack-mounted
    connectivity. Many technicians will choose to use fiber patch
    cables. Trust your technician to know what’s best.

    Wall-mounted enclosures are suitable for up to 24 optic fibers,
    although with small form factors and high density connectors,
    can extend the fiber optic cable count to as many as 144.
    Wall-mount enclosures also offer the benefit of reduced floor
    space requirements. Rack-mounted optic fiber enclosures can be
    used with higher fabric counts or depending on the proximity to
    communications equipment, where rack-mounted optic fiber
    enclosures are preferable. 1U enclosures can handle up to 24
    optic fiber cables with ST or SC connectors, or up to 48 optic
    fibers by using small form factor connectors. For extra
    protection, 2U to 4U enclosures can be used to handle up to 144
    optic fiber connections.

    A 12 fiber MPO connector can speed installation time and
    increase the concentration of connection hardware. The factory
    terminated and tested cassettes take care of breaking out the
    optic fibers from the MPO connectors to ST, SC, or MT-RJ
    connectors. The MPO cassettes can double the concentration that
    are possible in rack-mount enclosures - up to 72 optic fibers in
    a 1U enclosure and 288 optic fibers in a 4U enclosure - making
    these optic fibers perfectly fit to meet high density
    applications, such as data center’s and storage area networks.

    Accessibility is a concern for long term maintenance when
    choosing a rack-mount enclosure. The 1U enclosures may have a an
    access panel to reach the rear optic fibers, while larger
    enclosures may have a removable rear cover with adequate room
    inside to make changes or perform repairs. Strain relief and
    loop management for incoming cables must be provided,
    nonetheless management devices should be small enough as to not
    interfere with access to the optic fibers. Cable management for
    patch cords should be provided on the front of the enclosure
    with clear front covers and labeling arranged to ease moves,
    adds and changes and by ensuring that port identification is not
    obscured by patch cords.

    Since copper patch panels need to be strong enough not to flex
    too much as the cables are punched down. The rolled edges on the
    panel sheet metal stock help to make the panels rigid. Copper
    patch panels should provide 24 ports in a 1U height or 48 ports
    in a 2U height. It’s very important to make sure that the
    modular jacks and circuit traces on the panels are protected
    from debris that can short out circuits. All cable management
    systems must be easy to use and maintain to avoid any potential
    problems.

    When a command is mistyped on a Cisco router, the default behavior of the router is to attempt to resolve it via DNS. First, the router looks for an IP Host table on the local router to perform this resolution - that’s what the “translating” word in the output is referring to. If there’s no IP Host table or the IP Host table doesn’t contain an entry for what you typed, the router will send a broadcast in an attempt to resolve this name through a remote DNS server. To prevent this broadcast, enter the global command no ip domain-lookup. Of course, to use DNS to resolve hostnames, ip domain-lookup would have to be reenabled if it’s been turned off.

    A command is mistyped as “contin”. The Cisco router’s default behavior is to resolve this entry locally via an IP Host table, which isn’t present on the router. A broadcast is then sent out to find a DNS server to perform the name resolution. The DNS lookup attempt must time out before the configuration can continue.

    With “no ip domain-lookup” configured, the router doesn’t attempt to find a remote DNS server. It sees there is no local resolution configured and almost immediately sends a message to the console that the name can’t be resolved.

    A DNS server is installed on the network with the IP address 10.1.1.1. DNS lookup is reenabled with the command ip domain-lookup, and the IP address of the DNS server is specified with the ip name-server command.
    It’s just that easy to tell a Cisco router exactly where the DNS server is!
