There’s nothing like having a vase of fresh flowers at home every day. It can add a touch of elegance to your room and make you feel good. But if you must have flowers at home but can’t bear their cost, add a few fresh flowers to a range of plastic or silk flowers without frayed edges that look realistic. In the winter, add a little potpourri oil to the foam at the base of the vase and inhale the perfume of fresh flowers.

To make this type of arrangement yourself, you will need a pair of pliers to bend wire, a pair of wire cutters to cut stems, tape, wire, and foam, and floral tape.

Choose a wide containera vase, basket, or bowl. Now, choose a holder to match the color of the room in which you wish to place it. Next, choose flowers proportionate to each other so that they blend with your blooms. Mingle together roses, chrysanthemums, peonies, lilies, carnations, and poppies. Intersperse ferns, eucalyptus, or ivy among the flowers.

Your flowers might tip over and fall, but don’t panic. Continue until your vase has a good mix of blooms. Now, half fill your vase with glass marbles matching the color of your arrangement. If you have chosen a basket, place green foam at the bottom to hold your flowers from falling over.

Get all the stems to a uniform length with wire cutters. If you have chosen to do a basket, fill the bottom of the basket with the green foam to keep the stems in place. Lastly, add a beautiful bow or ribbon to the handle of the basket.

Use a feather duster to dust your arrangement once a week. Alternatively, you invest in commercial spray cleaners.

You have to know the advantages and disadvantages of a vented
and a ventless gas fireplace before deciding to buy one.

If you like sitting by the fire in the cold winter nights than
you must be having a chimney in your house. We love enjoying the
cool, crisp fall evenings in Sedona, Arizona next to
our outdoor fireplace. What can be more beautiful than to sit
with your loved ones around the fireplace and warm up when it’s
snowing?

And if you have a gas fireplace you’ll not have to worry about
chopping wood or making the fire. These types of fireplaces work
with natural gas or propane and they generate the same amount of
heat as the ones with firewood.

There are two types of gas fireplace: vented gas fireplace
and ventless gas fireplace. The vented gas log set is the
one that needs a chimney to tire out the toxic carbon monoxide
they eliminate when burning the natural gas. Vented gas
fireplaces have the advantage of not eliminating odors into a
room because they get their necessary combustion air from the
outside and then eliminate the carbon monoxide back outside. The
disadvantage is that a great percent of the heat they produce is
eliminated along with the exhausts.

A ventless gas fireplace is also called a vent free fireplace
because it has no outside ventilation. The ventless gas
fireplace insert is different from a vented fireplace because it
can eliminate odors into a room. That is because the air that is
eliminated contains odors is drawn back into the product, burned
again and then eliminated into the room. This is a disadvantage
of the ventless gas log insert, but it also has an advantage:
all the heat produced by the device is kept inside the room.

A ventless gas fireplace can be very easily installed or you
can buy a portable one that can be placed anywhere in the room.
All they need is to be connected to the available gas line. They
don’t need electricity to work which is also an advantage
because when the power will be off you’ll still be able to warm
up the room.

Having an outdoor space such as a garden, backyard or even a patio can be a wonderful and relaxing addition to your house. If properly designed, your outdoors can serve as wonderful environment to host magnificent parties, dinners, BBQ s and various outdoor events with your family and friends. Thus you should get the best possible outdoor furniture for your garden. This way your guests (and yourself) will enjoy your outdoors with the comfort of outdoor chairs, outdoor sofas and even outdoor hammocks. This way you can have the peace of mind that you deserve. Usually the best selection for outdoor furniture is definitely wood. Experience shows that outdoor wood furniture will last much longer than other types of materials.

With metal outdoor furniture, you will have to worry about rusting and corrosion with your furniture as all kinds of metal are prone to rusting. If you buy plastic furniture, then you will have to worry about the items getting broken under the forces of the wind or weather as they get tossed around. Thus the best alternative is definitely outdoor wood furniture, as they will be impervious to rusting, corrosion and they will be resistant to daily wear and tear. With some good painting and coating your outdoor wood furniture will serve you for many years while adding a touch of nobility to your garden.

You can’t make huge changes around a rented house/apartment but this does not mean you lose heart. The trick is in knowing that you can make temporary changes and changes that are small. Not only will this be affordable but also keep your landlord happy. Before you go out and buy decorating items for your home, see what you can do with the things you already have. If you do buy other items, see to it that they are things that will last, can be used to decorate in other houses (if you move) and they go easy on your wallet.

If you are unsure of certain changes you would like to make - will the landlord approve or not variety - then its best to get these ideas clarified before implementing them. Here are a few ways in which you can decorate your home without indulging in painting and loud banging.

Since in most rented houses you are not allowed to paint the walls, try a colorful rug that you can hang. Rugs of neutral colors can be used to hide dirty flooring or ragged/unflattering carpeting. Use cotton covers for your sofa in bright colors or use white if you want to make the room look bigger. Also throw in some cushions in different colors around the sitting area and bedrooms.

Use table lamps placed at strategic points to enhance the lighting in various rooms. Candle holders or just fancy candles, tabletop fountains, art pieces etc. can also be used to decorate.

Use colorful and varied patterns of curtains or panels for windows; colorful dishtowels and bath towels, fancy soap dishes and delicate vases with fresh flowers for the kitchen and bathrooms will add to the finer details making the rooms look bright.

If your landlord is particular about not nailing the walls, then lean huge mirrors against it to make the room look bigger. Paint the sides of the mirror or frame if it is bare. Small photo frames and other artwork can be placed on tables and mantel tops.

Fixtures and doorknobs can be replaced with your own as these can be reversed while vacating. But if you are unsure of this, get it checked with the landlord.

Put skirts or decorative screens around the sinks: not only will you be covering the area underneath but it can also double as storage space for your mops, brooms or other cleaning items. Shine up your taps and faucets if needed.

Trunks painted or decorated by you or the kids can be placed at the end of beds for more storage space.

There are many things you can do to decorate a home, rented or own, without making permanent changes. Think about your taste and go for that look in your house. Do not overdo anything to the point of garishness. Do not forget that no matter how short the period of your tenancy is this is your living space. Put in some time, effort and money to make the house your home.

When you think about it, toilets are pretty gross. Public toilets can be used up to 100 times a day, that means 100 people are using them. It is said that whenever a toilet is flushed it releases over 5000 bacteria into the air. So, when you walk into a public restroom that is well frequented, there can be up to half a million bacteria or virus particles in the air. Those bacteria can land on handles, sinks, faucets and even the paper towels that you use to wipe your hands after you have washed them. You can use all the antimicrobial soap in the world but it won’t do you any good if your smearing those dirty germs, bacteria and viruses onto your hands after you have used the soap. If you walk into a public restroom and it doesn’t look clean my advice is to walk straight out. If it looks dirty to your eyes imagine how it would look under a microscope. One of the dirtiest places in a bathroom is the toilet but a toilet can be kept clean very easily with regular maintenance. If you want to try an experiment don’t clean your toilet for 4 weeks and see what happens. Slowly right above the waterline a black or brownish ring will form. If you let your toilet go a little longer before cleaning, that black ring will slowly start to climb in vertical lines toward the toilet rim (by the way, that ring is about 6 inches from your behind whenever you sit down on your toilet). What is that black ring? The nasty black ring is bacteria and micro fecal buildup. A pretty nasty combination when you consider every time you flush your toilet your breathing them in.

There are many things you can do to avoid the nasty black ring on your toilet. The first is to use a low acid toilet bowl cleaner to kill the bacteria. The second is to get your self a really good toilet bowl brush or toilet bowl mop to scrub that acid around in the toilet and remove those ugly stains.

Toilet bowl brushes come in many styles but most are made from a material called polypropylene. Polypropylene won’t mold and can stand up to heat and chemicals. Polypropylene strands are abrasive and can do a great job at removing the nasty toilet ring. The two main styles of toilet bowl cleaning utensils are the toilet bowl mops and toilet bowl brushes. A toilet bowl brush resembles a brush and has a wide stiff polypropylene bristle. Brushes tend to last a lot longer that toilet bowl mops because the bristle is larger and does not break away from the toilet bowl brush handle. Toilet bowl mops are meant to be discarded after repeated use and are considered by most to be a disposable toilet cleaning product. Toilet bowl mops have a ball of polypropylene strands massed at one end to form a light duty scouring surface. Over time the strands tend to break off and the mop should be discarded. Toilet bowl mops are usually a quarter of the price of toilet bowl brushes and most are have a plastic handle.

An inground flagpole is simply a flagpole that is rooted in the ground. It is a permanent pole designed to withstand winds of up to 130 mph, depending on the height and material of the flagpole. Just as trees require roots for support, inground flagpoles need foundations.

A foundation is made by digging a hole, wetting the soil, and pouring in concrete. A cylindrical “groundsleeve” is then inserted into the wet concrete. A groundsleeve is a thick steel cylinder with an open top and a wide base, designed to protect the flagpole from the corrosive effects of the concrete. On the outside of the groundsleeve are steel plates that lock it in place. On the inside of the groundsleeve are steel wedges that firmly center the base of the flagpole. Oftentimes the groundsleeve will include a ground spike to channel away lightning (but this might be of little concern if you have a fiberglass flagpole, the only flagpole material that does not conduct electricity.)

The foundation may also include a flash collar, which fits over the ground sleeve and bottom of the pole to protect it from the elements and give the foundation a finished look. Space between the collar and pole is sealed to keep water away from the base of the pole and the foundation.

When building your foundation, it is important that the flagpole extends far enough underground so that it will not blow over. A good rule of thumb is that ten percent of the pole’s length should be underground.

Some of the larger flagpoles do require professional installation. Ask the manufacturer or distributor whether they will do it for free with purchase.

Flag poles Info provides detailed information on flagpoles of all types, including telescoping, fiberglass, commercial, residential, aluminum, tailgating, wall mounted, in ground, flagpoles for sale, and more. Flag poles Info is affiliated with Original Content Web.

Carpet tiles are a fun and unique way to decorate your rooms. They are easy to fit, easy to clean, moveable to compensate for wear and tear, super durable and especially fun for the kid’s rooms. If you are considering doing your children’s play area here are some pointers. Light colors show more dirt and soil and require cleaning more often than dark colors. So if you are thinking quality, think Mohawk carpet. If you want durability think berber carpet.

A luxurious feature offered on many modern ceiling fans is the wireless remote control. This feature offers full operation of the fan (and any light attachment) from any location within a reasonable distance. This can be especially useful in bedrooms, home theatres, and any other location it is beneficial to adjust the fan and lights without having to get up and operate a wall switch or pullcord.

Unfortunately remote controls also account for a fair number of problems with ceiling fans, and, even more unfortunately, solutions to these problems are usually not easily accessable. Usually, the only options available to the consumer are adjusting the dip switches, or using a universal replacement remote. Also, some fans use an add-on remote kit (in place of a permanently wired receiver) and this kit can be replaced or even removed.

The first step when encountering a problem with a remote control fan is to determine the make and model. If replacement parts are available, they will most likely be available through the manufacturer. If the manufactuer is no longer in business, or parts are no longer available, then you are usually limited to the options mentioned above.

If you live in the desert, installing some good ceiling fans is
a great way to reduce your energy costs and stay cool all
summer. A good ceiling fan is going to nicely circulate the air
inside your home and will substantially reduce the cost of using
your air conditioning system. The savings in energy costs can be
significant and you might save between 10 to 40%. So if you live
in a hot climate your investment in ceiling fans just may pay
for itself in a year or two. A ceiling fan is going to lower the
temperature in the room thus providing a nice breeze which will
make you feel 5 to 10 degrees cooler. One important thing to
remember is to have the blades rotating in a counter-clockwise
direction for the best cooling effect. This assures that the air
is moving in a downdraft instead of up to the ceiling. It is
recommended when building a home to have your rooms wired for
ceiling fans at the outset as this will be cheaper. Put fans in
all the rooms where you and your family spend your time such as
the kitchen, family room, etc. Some people actually install fans
in all the rooms and even in their workshop. The fan should be
installed between 7 and 9 feet from the floor. It is best to get
an extender to lower the fan if you have vaulted ceilings. Fans
should be lower to the ground for maximum efficiency. Installing
one closer to the ceiling will only circulate the air above and
not below. One other good rule of thumb is to install the fan at
least 18 inches from the walls.

Remember to get the largest fan you can as they don’t cost a lot
more to operate and you are going to be able to have more speed
settings that will cover a larger area. It is not out of the
ordinary to install even a couple of fans per room. Ceiling fans
are just about maintenance-free. All you have to do is dust the
blades now again and if you have a light kit, install a bulb now
and again. If you live in the tropics or a warm country, ceiling
fans make a lot of sense. Even if you live in a cooler climate,
it is an excellent choice to always keep that still air moving
in your room.

Redecorating a room? Start from the floor and work your way up,
say design specialists. The comfort, warmth and wide variety of
styles and design choices make it easy to find rugs that fit any
style of decor and accent any room. According to carpet designer
Christine Van Der Hurd, quoted in House Beautiful magazine’s
September 2005 issue, rugs let you introduce colour and texture
into a room from the ground up. Van Der Hurd offers the
following ten tips for choosing colour and pattern to suit your
design and lifestyle needs.

1. Think of the floor as the background canvas for your room. If
possible, choose your rug before choosing upholstery, paint and
wallpaper patterns. The colors in your carpet can be a source of
inspiration for the rest of your room.

2. Keep the function of the room in mind. If the room you’re
decorating will see a lot of use, choosing a rug with a pattern
will help camouflage daily wear and tear. The same holds true if
you have small children or pets.

3. Decorating an office? You’re not stuck with industrial
wall-to-wall. Instead, choose rugs that you like to look at to
help make the workplace more pleasant and inviting.

4. Give a bland hallway a makeover with a rug runner. Rugs that
are designed as stair runners and hallway runners can accent and
extend your design choices from the rest of the house into what
is usually a forgotten, utilitarian room.

5. Decide whether you want your rug to be a focal point of your
room or a subtle background accent. Patterned rugs with bold
colors will call attention to themselves, while rugs with subtle
blends of color can tie an entire room together with color -
without being obvious about it.

6. If you’re looking for rugs that will coordinate with fabrics
and wall colors already in place, consider custom design. It’s
not much more expensive than a good quality off the rack rug,
and you’ll be assured of a unique, one-of-a-kind work of art on
your floor.

7. Choosing rugs for kids’
rooms can be one of the more fun and challenging parts of a
redecorating project. Let your imagination run wild. Don’t be
afraid of color - children love it. Remember that kids spend
nearly as much time on the floor as they do on the furniture.
Choose rugs that are soft and comfortable - and pick a pattern
that inspires the imagination.

8. Like texture but don’t care for pattern? Rugs that leave the
yarn loops uncut add a wonderful texture to the basic solid
color. Other choices include rugs made in natural yarn that
takes fabric dyes unevenly to create a unique ‘un-patterned’
pattern.

9. If your room has lots of color and pattern, don’t over do it
with the rugs. Stick with a solid color - but don’t be afraid to
be bold. Choose a color from the upholstery or wall-covering.

10. Forget everything you’ve heard and go with your gut.
Whatever rugs you choose,
you’ll have to live with, so pick a rug that you like and are
comfortable with.
