1. There is money to be made in spam. The goal of the spam racketeers: crack your passcodes, dig into your credit card and bank account information and sell it to third parties. The method: set up zombie “spam host” computers all over the world that will send virus-laden spam emails. The viruses will then burrow through your security layers and trace your every move and keystroke. In fact, your computer could be functioning as a spam host right now. Why is that fairly devastating? Because you could end up on a spam blacklist tomorrow… and as an internet marketer, the last thing you need is a tainted IP address, ticking people off with unwanted spam that you had no idea you sent!

2. Spammers transmit viruses via files and links. The purpose of a virus might be, a. to destroy your system “for sport,” or b. to hack in and gain access to your files and personal information. If you open emails from parties whom you don’t know and start clicking and downloading things, there’s a good chance you’ll infect your machine. The evil doesn’t even have to come from email. It could be lurking in a harmless, fun little celebrity clip you wanted to download. Spammers play those kinds of tricks.

3. Spammers often lead double lives as… surprise… programmers. This is why internet security is never really “up to date”. Spammers hack and crack the old code, render it obsolete with nifty programming tricks, and force the purveyors of such technology to develop new methods of protection and charge their clients more money to upgrade. Imagine for a minute how much cash can be made from living a Dr.-Jeckyl-Mr.-Hyde spammer/programmer playing-both-sides-of-the-coin existence. It’s almost… criminal. Wait, no, it IS criminal!

4. Spammers can hack your system via social networking software. It’s as simple as connecting when you’re connecting, typing in a few commands and gaining instant access to your machine. Again, the motive is typically identity theft. A spammer might have himself a fine old time dipping into your bank account every now and again. If he’s logging in as you, who would know?

5. Spammers are not mentally challenged, as their spelling would have them appear. They spell words incorrectly on purpose to get around the various spam blocking devices in your email and on your server. It obviously works, or you wouldn’t get so much spam.

6. Spammers can invade your privacy with a dirty little tool called a keylogger. Once they gain access, they download a program that monitors and records exactly what you’re typing - including YOUR PASSWORDS. You can bypass a keylogger with an anti-keylogger, but if you’re resorting to that you’ve likely got some other issues that need emergency attention anyway.

Now that you know the stark truth, what will you do to protect yourself? Read on for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Here are Five “Stupid User Tricks” You Can Use to Thwart the Evil Trojan Horse and Other Unwelcome Visits from Spammers

1. Run a firewall program. It doesn’t have to be whatever high-priced breakthrough bells-and-whistles technology Bill Gates is putting out. Your firewall can be one of the freeware programs put out by any one of a number of trusted internet security experts. Make sure your firewall is of course current, and stays engaged and active in the background as you’re working. Your firewall won’t do you much good just sitting there in “off” mode, taking up space on your hard drive.

2. Never view your Microsoft Outlook in the “preview pane.” Here, the innards of your email take mere seconds to become exposed. Next thing you know, YOU’ve been exposed.

3. Don’t set your file download preferences to “automatic download” - you might as well put down a welcome mat for hackers. Even if you’re Quick Draw McGraw and never let funny emails get by you, there’s always the slight chance of that one slip-up where your wrist lurches forward, the email pops open and suddenly you’re downloading the demon seed and sealing your own demise.

4. Don’t talk to e-strangers. No kidding - online networking has become yet another way for the evil spammer to maraud as an innocent party who just wants to be your new pal, when really he wants to ogle your PayPal. If you meet up with potential customers on the internet, make sure that you speak to them on the phone or in person before conducting any business.

5. Don’t EVER download executable files. Executable files end in .exe. These are program files, which are what spammers use to worm their way in and wreck your system and your life. Don’t download them from email, don’t download them from a random website that you think looks cool, and don’t download them from your “virtual buddies.” And especially, don’t download an .exe file if your friend sends one in the form of “a really funny email forward.” Spam = Not Remotely Funny.

6. Control-Alt-Delete or pull the plug. If you hear unearthly groans emanating from your machine after visiting a new website or opening a suspicious email, something’s afoot and it’s most likely a Trojan Horse. Do a control-Alt-Delete and view what’s running. If it looks strange, hit Control-Alt-Del again and restart. Or, simply PULL THE PLUG to halt the invader — then get that firewall going, like I told you to, dang it!

7. Run anti-spyware and anti-virus regularly. There are plenty of freeware programs for these purposes available on the internet. Do your homework, learn which ones are the most reputable, get your layers of protection in place and then make sure you clean house regularly.

8. Change your passwords every so often. If someone hacked your machine at one point but you wiped him out with your handy Trojan Horse eradicator, that’s super. However, if he still has your passwords? Not so great. And definitely do not use your pet’s name as your password and then go on six different user groups and start yapping to everyone in the free world about what that old rascal, Muffy the Cat, did again today.

9. Don’t use online banking services. Just don’t.

10. Send your ezine through a secure autoreponder system. NEVER send your email newsletter mailings from the email program on your personal computer. All that a spammer has to do is subscribe to your list and give himself permission to send you offensive mail anytime. Don’t set up one of those free PHP forms to collect subscribers, either. You’re setting yourself as a prime target to be hacked and have your server infiltrated. Next thing you know, you’re one cooked goose, and all because you took the low-budget route. Not smart!

My son works for a Boston fence company. I am so proud of him. He works very hard, and he earns a good living at what he does. He has worked for the same company for many years. He earns competitive wages, and he has an excellent benefits package. He is good at what he does too. On the weekends, when he is not working, he has installed fences for several family members, friends, and neighbors. He just installed my fence today, and it looks great. He knows what he is doing, and he enjoys his job. Whether he is working for paying customers, or doing a little favor on the side, everyone agrees that he is great at what he does.

When I decided to install a fence, I hired a Boston fence company. I have Siberian Huskies - five of them to be exact. Huskies are well known for their ability to clear great heights. I knew I needed a fence that would be high enough to contain the dogs in the backyard. I knew a professional would be more knowledgeable about the different types of fencing that I would be, so I decided to get some advice. The salesman helped me choose the right fence, and then the installers put the fence up for me. It is perfect. I haven’t had a dog clear the fence yet, so I know that my furry friends are safe when they are outside.

Small Business Online Advertising Strategies

While professional search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the smartest investments a Website owner could make it does have its limitations. There are other search engine marketing solutions that offer more flexibility than SEO ever could. This article is not meant to suggest that these solutions should be considered above a professional SEO campaign, but because SEO is a long-term process these solutions could be considered as an addition to SEO.

Statistics show that throughout 2005 b2b companies moved up to 40% of their advertising budgets online and b2c companies moved up to 56% of their advertising budget online. Moving this much of advertising budgets towards the Internet may not make sense for many small businesses but we could still learn a few things from observing the larger businesses. One of those observations could be that larger businesses are taking advantage of the same advertising opportunities given to the small business owners by the major search engines Google, Yahoo and MSN. Below are some search engine marketing solutions being used by businesses today.

Pay-Per-Click

Small business owners need to know how to effectively leverage the Internet to their advantage. Investing large portions of their advertising budget into SEO and playing the Google sandbox waiting game really isn’t a smart business practice. Pay-per-click is a great addition to SEO and is an option most businesses should consider. Pay-per-click offers so much flexibility that it’s almost silly for a business not try at least a small test campaign. Pay-per-click offers the flexibility and convenience of setting your own budget and creating your own advertisements. Other conveniences of pay-per-click are that you can create a new advertising campaign in a few minutes and turn the advertisements on and off in an instant. This feature is great for seasonal or holiday campaigns. Other advantages are that pay-per-click can be targeted by geographical region making it is possible to narrow the advertisements within a city location or globally.

Site Targeting

Site Targeting is Google’s new program that allows you to customize text or banner advertisements and display them across specific Websites within the Google network. You can target Websites by suggesting keywords to Google and allowing Google to choose from the network which Websites are relevant to those keywords. Or you could suggest a specific Website URL to Google and Google will let you know if that Website is available within the network. You may even be able to specify which page within the Website you want to advertise your customized advertisements on. This form of advertising is new from Google and the advertising opportunities within the network are slim; therefore, caution should be taken to test your market within the network before throwing a large amount of money at this form of advertising. The payment model for this program is CPM (cost per 1000 impressions).

Behavioral Targeting

The Yahoo! Impulse program provides businesses with the ability to target Internet users based on their past Internet behaviors. With this method of advertising we can target users with text and banner ads customized to whatever the user has recently searched or viewed online. For example, if you sell canoe camping products you could target Internet users who have recently visited canoe camping Websites, or performed canoe camping searches. Yahoo! Behavioral Targeting allows you to display your banner advertisements across the Yahoo! Network and even within the Yahoo! email. Google recently announced they will offer their own behavioral targeting program in the future.

These are just a sample of the online advertising opportunities available to small business owners. Transitioning your small business online may be a smart move for many businesses but be sure to do your homework before diving into these programs. Before taking the leap to online advertising realistic goals need to be established and strategies need to be developed. Don’t be afraid to consult a search engine marketing professional for assistance if you need to. They will save you money in the long run.

Core training is the latest rage in the fitness industry, but not many
people really understand what it is.
There are many misconceptions
about what it is and how it works. People know that core training is
smarter training, but they may not realize why that is. Core training
represents a more balanced and realistic approach to health. For a very
long time, the fitness industry was completely focused on working
muscles in isolation. More recently, there has been a realization that we
were not born to isolate. Our bodies do not work with one isolated
muscle doing all the work. Everything in the body is beautifully
orchestrated to work together. People have evolved into wanting their
body to function better in their sport activities and in everyday life.

Core training makes you look better as well as function more
efficiently.
The structural center of movement is called the “pillar”,
and by training the core or pillar you change posturally for the better.
You will walk taller in your newly integrated body and have a leaner
more athletic look. A completely new sculpting of the body occurs which
is impossible when the muscles are trained in isolation. Despite the
notion that core training is just about the lower back and the
abdominals, it really incorporates your entire torso and the muscles that
attach to your pelvis.
The “pillar” includes hip, shoulder and trunk
stability offering the ability to build power in your movements.

In core training you focus on multi-dimensional “power” moves
calling upon many muscles to work together for maximum training
benefit.
Many training programs are based on the one-dimensional
movements of bodybuilding. There is plenty of pushing and pulling, but
rarely are the hips, torso, pelvis or lower back integrated into the
movements. You may gain strength, but not the power - the ability to
generate force behind your movements. For example, bodybuilders can
lift heavy weights, but they cannot generate much force with a tennis
racket. This is because they don’t work the small muscles that support
their hips, torso, shoulders and back, and they tend to have little
flexibility. You have got to train movements, not just body parts.

It is impossible to move your limbs efficiently and with force if they
are not attached to something solid and stable.
You can train the
strongest abdominals and low back, but if your shoulders round forward
like most computer-jockeys you can still have shoulder problems or
poor, inefficient posture. Less than ideal hip stability will tighten the IT
(iliotibial) band and strain the lower back and knees when you run. This
sets up the conditions for pain and possible injury.

One of the best tests to determine the strength of your core is the
simple glute bridge.
There are some people who can squat 500
pounds, but cannot maintain a glute bridge for five seconds. Lie face-up
with your knees bent at 90 degrees and your heels on the floor, toes
lifted, arms straight out at about 45 degrees from torso, arms and palms
flat on the floor. With the navel drawn in, lift your hips. Only hands, arms,
shoulders, head and heels should remain on the floor. If you can’t hold a
straight line between your knees and shoulders for 30 seconds, your
core is not working well. Time to get to the core of things!

When you think of exercise and how you should be doing more of it do you automatically imagine things like running, aerobics, going for a swim or to the gym? Not to mention the latest fitness gadgets and gimmicks. There is however, another, simpler, perhaps underrated way of getting huge health benefits from exercise, and all you need is your own two legs.

General fitness and weight loss

Regular brisk walking is a good way to improve your general physical health, as it reduces the risk of coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity, stroke, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer. Walking increases joint flexibility, muscle strength and the efficiency of the heart and lungs.

The Department of Health recommends we all do at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity activity five times per week. Even if these episodes are broken up into brisk, ten-minute walks it can still help improve cardio respiratory fitness.

Walking has an aerobic effect on the body so it burns calories, helps reduce body fat and aids weight loss. “Walking one mile can burn up at least 100 kcal of energy and walking two miles a day, three times a week, can help reduce weight by one pound every three weeks,” says the Ramblers Association.

The higher the intensity of the walk the more energy is required, so brisk walks will give maximum benefit. Brisk walking means not overexerting yourself, but keeping things at a moderate intensity, being slightly out of breath while still being able to hold a conversation. But even if you feel like taking it slow, this is far better than doing none at all.

Build up your bones

Approximately 3 million people suffer from osteoporosis in the UK, a condition where the bones become porous. A loss of bone density increases the risk of fractures particularly to the hip, wrist and spinal areas. In addition to eating a balanced diet including adequate amounts of calcium, it is important to ensure we take regular weight bearing exercise, which encourages the bones to stay strong.

The National Osteoporosis Society recommends performing weight bearing exercise such as running, aerobics, tennis or brisk walking for 20 minutes three times a week. Research has shown walking to be beneficial in warding off the onset of osteoporosis and reducing the risk of fractures.

The sunshine vitamin

Food is not the only place we get vital nutrients. While vitamin D is present in foods such as cod liver oil, some fish and fortified breakfast cereals, an important source of it is sunlight. UV rays activate vitamin D synthesis in the skin, and this is the method by which most of us meet our vitamin D requirements.

Vitamin D is important for calcium absorption, which in turn is important for strong bones. It is also thought to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer. We need sun exposure if we are not getting adequate amounts of vitamin D from our diets, and walking provides a way to regularly spend time outdoors.

Stress busting

Calories are not the only thing walking burns off — an energetic walk is a great way to burn up the stress chemicals our bodies produce (such as adrenaline) when we are anxious or under pressure.

A sustained build up of stress chemicals over long periods of time is linked to ailments such as heart disease, skin problems, lowered immunity and high blood pressure. Going for a walk also provides a diversion from the stressors and tensions in your life, and gives you a chance to clear your mind, calm down and relax.

Ease depression

There is much research to suggest that regular exercise helps ease symptoms of depression and is a viable alternative to antidepressants. The Mental Health Foundation says that exercise lifts your mood, boosts self-esteem and reduces anxiety, as well as helping to prevent the onset of depression in the first place. Unlike antidepressants walking has no side effects.

A joint initiative of the British Heart Foundation and the Countryside Agency, ‘Walking the way to health’ (WHI) offers organised walks designed specifically to have a positive impact on people’s physical and mental health. To find a health walk near you, see their website (www.whi.org.uk).

A means of transportation

We were given legs for a reason, namely to get us from one place to another. Legs are the cheapest form of transport we will ever have. Unfortunately, many of us seem to have forgotten this and don’t walk anywhere of any distance.

Walking is a good example of incidental exercise — it has a purpose other than helping us to get fit and is a good way to incorporate exercise into our lives without really trying.

Sitting in the car in traffic is not the most enjoyable activity in the world and there isn’t an awful lot you can do to amuse yourself while you are at it. Petrol prices, road congestion, pollution, parking nightmares; walking is a far better alternative.

See the world differently

As toddlers, we make a great effort to learn how to put one foot in front of the other so we can embark on our exploration of the world around us; taking our first steps is such a milestone in our development. This should serve to remind us of why we should walk more — we get to see things.

When we use the car or public transport we miss out on so much — sights, sounds and smells. When walking we see and notice things we never even knew were there. One thing’s for sure, whether you choose to walk in the town or in the countryside, you’ll get to see things you’ll never see inside a gym or sitting on your exercise bike in front of the television in your living room.

There’s nothing to it

Walking is not difficult; it is especially good for people who are afraid of being ’sporty’. You don’t need to invest in any special equipment or clothing (except perhaps a good pair of walking shoes). You won’t feel self-conscious doing it and you don’t have to be super fit to do it either.

You can build up your distance and intensity at entirely your own pace, taking it one step at a time (pun intended), however you feel most comfortable. You are in total control. You can walk alone or make it more social by taking family, friends or pets with you. Walking can be many things: functional, enjoyable, relaxing, invigorating; you truly can make it your own.

It does not matter if you choose a quick ten-minute walk in your lunch hour or a longer stroll in the evening. Walking can become a sustained habit that continues throughout life and the health benefits can be enormous at any age.

For more information on getting started in walking, where you can walk and how to get the most out of it see http://www.ramblers.org.uk/

Has your house lost power? Has your refrigerator stopped working during the night? Do you have qualms about food that was in the freezer?

If this happens, don’t worry because there are easy to follow instructions for food safety.

Food that thaws completely or gets as warm as room temperature should be discarded. If it has been kept at room temperature for more than two hours, throw it away.

Make sure to cook the food right away if it’s almost thawed and still a little cold. Once cooked, food can be refrigerated for later or eaten right away.

You can freeze the food again if ice crystals have formed on the surface. If you do not have a freezer available, throw it in a cooler and add dry ice. The food will need to be cooked, because it won’t last as long as with a normal freezer.

You can immediately get rid of items that have signs of freezer burn.

Sudden power outages cannot be avoided, but there are things you can do to prepare for them.
If your existing fridge or freezer has seen better days, the best advice that anyone can give you is you invest in a new one. A new American Style fridge freezer is a great option if you have the amount of space needed. This can really make the difference to any kitchen. This site has a range of American fridge freezers from many suppliers that will server you better.
